What does yoga have to do with stress?
Unlike more traditional forms of exercise, yoga’s incorporation of meditation and breathing help a person improve their mental well-being. Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness; increases body awareness; relieves chronic stress patterns; relaxes the mind; centers attention; and sharpens concentration. Utilizing the breathing exercises, postures, and meditation of yoga, through practice, a person is able to develop coping skills to manage stress and reach a more positive outlook on life.
How can yoga actually help with stress relief?
Stress causes your muscles to become tense and can create negative effects all over your body. The movements practiced in yoga (ie. gentle stretching) relaxes the tension in our muscles where we tend to hold stress the most (ie. lower back, upper neck). Since yoga is a form of exercise, it releases endorphins that boost your mood and make you feel great!
